A respected corporate lawyer by profession, Carla Powers is also an author, motivational speaker and, at the deepest levels, a survivor.

Speaking to a wide array of audiences with various backgrounds, careers and interests, Carla’s story has an essence of universality that captivates, inspires and reinvigorates individuals regardless of life situation, age, religious beliefs, gender or race. Centered on her own personal mission to achieve a heightened level self awareness, Carla’s genuine approach is not just a chronicle of her experiences, but an intimate exploration of her journey to healing.

Fueled by her recently released memoir, Matches in the Gas Tank, Carla searches for the truth and meaning within her own experience by exploring the dark world she has spent a lifetime running from.  A member of the Radio Church of God since infancy and the daughter of an abusive, alcoholic father, Carla shares more than just the details of her life inside the cult and her eventual escape, she explores the influence it has had in shaping her successful career in law, motivating her decisions and guiding her to find peace with her past and happiness in the present.

Both cathartic and hopeful, the message is simply that everyone has the power to overcome the painful and embarrassing circumstances of their past and to break free from the entangled cycle of competition, money, power, toxic environments and relationships. Prohibiting us from enjoying the fruits of our labor, Carla challenges audiences to become conscious of their wounds and break out of the lifestyle trap, driving them to seek meaning and purpose without regard for money, power or any other circumstantial crutch.
